Having said that there are a load of swag style tents out there made from more modern materials that are perfect for one person backpacking... I'll pull some together and do an update to this video at some point.

The thing to remember - as I say in the video - is that there are a lot of options out there and you just need to consider what gear you need for what circumstances - there's no point paying Ł800 for a tent if you're only doing 1 or 2 nights out and about and you're a comfortable walk from shelter - but if you're out for 7 days well away from support / rescue you should perhaps consider spending more.

They're supposed to fold in to fourths however that rarely happens, they fold in to thirds and can't be crammed back in to the bags they come in. Over time, those tents that can be folded become harder and harder to fold without breaking.
These "self erecting" tents aren't worth the money. Far better to have a normal tent one can rope to one's handlebars.

Bad ass !!!! This video reminds me other ones I have seen where you use a support stick in the middle to make the roof but I like this a lot better, seems a lot more rugged.. What is that tarp made out of canvas ? This makes me want to get a tarp to throw in the back of my truck just incase it is needed !!

right, but you could easily take a regular poly-tarp and modify it to do the exact same thing just by adding a couple of tie points. or you could make one out of silnylon for about the same weight as a couple of his stakes.
